SOUTH BELOIT

South Beloit’s second marijuana dispensary has delayed its opening until November.

Work has been underway at the CloudHaven dispensary at 1322 Gardner St. for a few months. A sign in front of its dispensary previously stated it planned a September opening, but in an email to the Beloit Daily News, owners said plans have changed.

“The delay has been primarily due to construction extensions related to the extensive renovations we’re undertaking to ensure our facility meets our high standards,” an email from Mazie Harris, managing director of CloudHaven, stated.

In February, the South Beloit City Council approved a conditional use permit for the dispensary. CloudHaven is part of the WAH Group, LLC, based in the Chicago area. The South Beloit dispensary would be the company’s first marijuana sales outlet.

Harris said she has been encouraged by the support the business has received and the interest people have shown about the dispensary. She said the dispensary is planning to become more involved in the community.

“As part of our efforts, we’re proud to be sponsoring the upcoming Harvest Harmony Day event on Oct. 20, hosted by Nature at the Confluence,” Harris said in an email. “We believe this is a wonderful opportunity to interact with residents and help break down any stigmas associated with cannabis dispensaries. Our goal is to continue sponsoring community events and work closely with the city to identify areas where our company can be of service as we become an active part of the community.”

In August, CloudHaven was awarded a $240,000 forgivable loan through the Cannabis Social Equity Loan Program. It was one of 23 dispensaries to receive loan awards in Illinois.

South Beloit welcomed its first marijuana dispensary, Sunnyside, located along Willowbrook Road near Interstate 39/90, in July of 2020. The dispensary has seen a lot of traffic in the past several years, with customers coming from both Illinois and Wisconsin.
