BELOIT

The Beloit City Council unanimously approved actions to move along the Henry Dorrbaker’s and Ho-Chunk casino projects.

The council approved a fermented malt beverage (beer) and intoxicating liquor license for Henry Dorrbaker’s Pub & Play, which currently is under construction at the Ironworks campus in downtown Beloit.

Work started on the 20,000-square-foot entertainment venue in May. It will feature duckpin bowling, miniature golf and other games along with a full-service bar. The unique name comes from the first man to open a bowling alley in Beloit in 1899.

The council also approved amending the zoning of four properties at Willowbrook and Colley roads. The zoning for. the properties was changed from general manufacturing to a planned unit development district. It was another step on the regulatory path to allow the Ho-Chunk Nation to build a $405 million casino, hotel and conference center near Interstate 90.

Geronimo Hospitality Group has not updated its plans for a grand opening for Dorrbaker’s. In May, when work started, Geronimo Hospitality officials said it would be open by the end of 2024.

Collin Price, a consultant for the Ho-Chunk Nation, said work on the casino project is expected to begin this fall.

Plans are for a 240,478-square-foot casino with a 62-seat bar, four restaurants and a 76,413-square-foot conference center. An 18-story, 312-room hotel also is part of the planned development, according to Ho-Chunk officials.
