BELOIT
The Beloit City Council Thursday approved partnering with the city of Janesville to buy aerial imaging software.
By joining forces, the two cities will save about $8,000 over the course of the contract with Pictometry/Eagleview Software.
Janesville approved the intergovernmental agreement on Oct. 28. Janesville will pay $13,195.80 and Beloit’s share is $9,000.
The software is used to view top-down or side-angled imagery of an area or specific parcel of property. Multiple departments use aerial imaging, including police, fire, assessors, housing services, planning and building, code enforcement and Global Information Systems.
Beloit and Janesville have had a rivalry over the years, but in rare instances the communities have worked together.
The Beloit Transit and the Janesville Transit System jointly operate a bus service between the two cities year-round Monday through Friday, except holidays. Beloit and Janesville also are a part of the Rock County HOME Consortium, which receives and distributes U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development money to the various communities in the county.
